Green Energy:  Zero emission home.  No combustion of natural gas to cause indoor air pollution eliminating harmful health effects to residents.  No natural gas pipelines in the neighborhood contributing to the danger of an explosion.  Solar system on roof (6.72 KW).  Solar panels produce more than enough energy to meet the needs of this home over the course of a year. 

Efficient:  Water heater placed in strategic location to minimize travel distance before hot water gets to faucets.  Xero-scape and drip system to minimize water use. 

Appliances:  Heat pump water heater, Dual inverter heat pump drier, High efficiency washer, Induction range.  Refrigerator, built-in convection microwave oven and dishwasher also included.

Construction: Sealant wrap on exterior of building under siding to eliminate air exchange with the outside.  During construction, blower door tests were done to check for air leakage so all leaks could be sealed.  Structurally insulated panels (SIPs) used for outer walls to eliminate heat transfer caused by dimensional lumber.  Spray foam insulation in the attic. 

Doors:  Insulated exterior doors, R-value 9.  Typical door has a R-value of 1.

Exposure/Shade: Orientation of the home designed to maximize passive and active solar energy gain.  Large windows south facing and smaller windows north facing.  Plum shade trees also provide edibles in the Fall.  

HVAC:  1 ½ ton Bosch water to air geothermal heat pump. Controlled Energy Recovery Ventilation (CERV) system monitors indoor air quality (VOC’s and carbon dioxide as well as humidity and temperature).  As stale or polluted air is removed from the home, heat is exchanged to incoming fresh air with an efficiency of 85-90%.  Indoor air quality is very high.

Insulation:  SIPs and closed cell foam.

Lighting:  High efficiency LED lighting throughout the house.

Thermostat: CERV

Water Heater: Air to water heat pump water heater.

Windows:  Triple pane, fiberglass Alpen Windows (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient 0.42, U-Factor 0.18, Visible Transmittance 55, Condensation Resistance 68)
