About the Neighborhood

San Bernardino is located just 55 miles from Los Angeles California. While once a great distance, Today the City is known as a bedroom community of Los Angeles and adjacent Riverside. Close to the beauty of the mountains and the conveniences of the metropolitan areas.

With the Cal State campus and nearby Riverside with its' Ontario Airport and Loma Linda with world class Medical facilities just minutes away you really are in the middle of everything. Living here is convenient and easy. There are homes of all shapes and sizes in San Bernardino.

HISTORY: The City of San Bernardino has a rich history and influences by many cultures. From native Americans & Mexican settlers to Spanish missionaries and Mormon emigrants. It was 1810 when Franciscan missionary Father Dumetz named the area San Bernardino. Today, the City of San Bernardino serves as the county seat and is the largest city in the County of San Bernardino with a population of over 213,000.

In 1848, California joined the United States. By this time, many rancheros, discouraged by Indian raids and horse and cattle stealing, left the area. The Lugo brothers eventually sold San Bernardino Rancho to a party of 500 Mormon settlers in 1852 who built a stockade around the ranch and named it “Fort San Bernardino.” The community thrived and was officially incorporated as a City in 1854 with a population of 1,200. At that time, San Bernardino was strictly a temperance town, with no drinking or gambling allowed.

RAILROADS:The Santa Fe, Union Pacific and Southern Pacific all made San Bernardino the hub of their Southern California operations. When the Santa Fe Railway established a transcontinental link in 1886, the already prosperous valley exploded. Population figures doubled between 1900 and 1910.

Now an important transportation hub the port of Los Angeles feeds right into the valley. Creating jobs and an economic engine that helps fuel the growth of the area.
