Rock Hill is the largest city in York County, South
Carolina and the fifth largest city in the state. Rock Hill is also the fourth
largest city in the Greater Charlotte metro area, located about 25 miles south
Charlotte.
Rock Hill offers scenic riverfront views along the Catawba River and
is home to numerous nature trails, restaurants, and some 31 parks used for
both national and local events. Its historic downtown
(Old Town Rock Hill) consists of twelve contiguous buildings built as early as
1840 offering dining and retail options (now on the National Register).
The city is home to three colleges. Winthrop University, a public liberal arts
university founded in 1886, enrolls nearly 6,000 students annually. York Technical College is a public community college in Rock
Hill and part of the South Carolina Technical College System. Clinton College
is a historically black, Christian college in Rock Hill.
Named a “Boom Town” by the New York Times, Rock
Hill is also known as Football
City USA for the dozens of NFL players and national football champions who grew up in Rock Hill.
Historic Old Town Rock Hill
Historic Old
Town Rock Hill, which began as a rail station trading
center in 1852, is experiencing a renaissance with many completed
and ongoing rehab projects of old homes, as well as new construction blending
into the historic feel of the neighborhood, which features neoclassical
and Gothic Revival architecture.
Rock Hill is enjoying a burgeoning art and
dining scene. You’ll find unique restaurants, a vibrant art community, live
music, and community festivals in Rock Hill's downtown. There's a Farmer's Market
from May to November, Food Truck Fridays, Yoga in the Park on Saturdays, Summer
Movies in the Park events. You’ll find large-scale
murals on the Mural Mile and art galleries at the Center for the Arts. For theatre lovers there's the Old Town Theatre Company. In
2014, Fountain Park was added to the landscape of Old Town
Rock Hill. The park features a large fountain with an interactive water
jet display, green space and a small performance venue.

Rock Hill
offers a free public bus transportation system known as the My
Ride Transit System. The bus system has mobile charging ports, free
Wi-Fi, and is
ADA compliant. Need a break from riding your
bike? The bus even has bike racks on the front! With four fixed routes,
the bus runs along the key corridors of the city, taking you from one end to the
other, allowing you to visit almost any place in Rock Hill. The My Ride mobile app will
let you track where the bus currently is, preview routes, find nearby bus
stops, and more!
The
downtown loop, called Route 1: Knowledge Park
Loop, has a bus stop right in front of the Rock Hill Sports
& Event Center.
