Hello
Friends!
Welcome
to 3137 NE Garfield Street. Get ready to
fall in love with your home. We became
the second occupants of this rock-solid 1957 rambler in 2007. Since then, we’ve made some incredible friends
and memories on Garfield Street – and we know you will too.
Do
you like entertaining? This is the spot. The main floor flows fantastically for
entertaining large groups. The lower level has an incredible bar and game area,
along with plenty of room for watching a movie or the big game. If you hadn’t
noticed, the double lot in the middle of the block makes this house the center
of outdoor living. We’ve had enormous
gatherings – grilling, bonfires, yard games, our neighborhood kids playing
night games.
If
gardening is of interest to you, congratulations – you’re about to walk into an
urban oasis right in your backyard. I’ve
been a master gardener since 2009 (and was raised by owners of a greenhouse) –
so it was just natural for us to grow vegetables in the huge sunny garden.
You’ll find currants, blackberries, and blueberries in the east corner of the
backyard. Enjoy the fabulous aroma of plum blossoms each spring as you pull
your car in to the driveway! We have scores of perennials scattered throughout
the yard – many of which are natives and pollinator-friendly. Two rain gardens
packed with natives adorn the south yard, making sure rainwater returns to the
soil and doesn’t run off into our lakes and rivers.
We’ve
lovingly updated and improved 3137 Garfield with an eye for preserving all her
mid-century goodness. We’ve remodeled
and finished the entire lower level, including a bathroom and two bedrooms with
egress windows. We replaced the entry doors and 12-foot picture window. The
hardwood floors are newly sanded and refinished, and you’ll enjoy a brand-new
(installed May 2019) air-conditioning system (vented in the bedrooms through
the attic, and a split-duct unit that is quiet and incredibly efficient.) We
built the extended 2-car garage in 2011, which you will find one of the best
things about this property. The 660 SF garage is insulated and finished with an
epoxy floor coating that makes cleaning a snap. There is plenty of room for
bikes, tools, camping gear, kayaks … whatever toys you might need to store.
You
will not find a better block on which to live in Waite Park – hands down, we’ll
miss this neighborhood the most. The short walks to Hazel’s and Sarah Jane’s
are a special highlight. Garfield Street is bookended by Waite Park Elementary
and Northeast Middle schools – which mean there are ample parks and open spaces.
We’ve deeply enjoyed walks along St. Anthony parkway and bike rides everywhere
– you can get to 20 breweries and at least three great micro-distilleries on
bike or by foot (within two miles.) But
more than any of the amenities, the neighbors make this home truly exceptional.
The neighborhood looks out for one another – we’ll regularly stop yardwork to
catch up with a neighbor, which evolves into margaritas on someone’s deck or
smores at someone’s fire pit. It’s just that kind of neighborhood.
So
why leave? It is just time. As we’ve grown and changed as a family, and as our
parents’ needs change, it is time to find a home that best fits us for the next
decade and beyond. Even so, it’s very
difficult to say good-bye to a home that has been so wonderful for so many
years. We truly hope you love it as much
as we have!
Sincerely,
The
Sellers of 3137 NE Garfield Street
