Notes from the sellers:
The gift we never
anticipated were our neighbors. The neighbor next door to us on the corner has
been here since day one. He and his family are kind, and giving. He has every
tool under the sun, will help you with almost anything, and loves to chat. Our
neighbor on the other side is the fourth owner of her home in the time we’ve
been here. Her husband and I were fellow Toastmasters and, were very close. He
passed about 10 years ago. Every once in a while, I get to have her dog Maggie
over when Laura goes to work. Even though our yard is completely fenced, she
and I talk over…or through…the fence at times. I have a key to her house in
case of emergency.
After a year or two
living here, the city build Calavera Park. It’s one of the four parks in the
city that hold our summer series, “Jazz in the Park.” We walk up to the park
for those events, it’s that close. It’s also a great way to meet your
immediate neighbors, but also many other residents in the surrounding
neighborhoods. If you have younger kids, you’ll find a great park just for
them. There are also baseball fields, basketball, tennis, and softball courts.
We also have Calavera
Lake just down the street from the park on College Dr. It’s a great place to
take the kids…ok, and us adults, hiking. There are several trails you can hike
or bike on. Calavera was once a volcano, so you can see the remnants of the
caldera. It can be quite peaceful in the caldera. https://www.carlsbadca.gov/services/depts/parks/open/trails/village.asp
Do you have a dog?
Our neighborhood is filled with neighbors walking their dogs. We have two dog
parks within walking distance. One is on Carlsbad Village drive, just west of
Pontiac. It’s a gathering spot for our neighbors and their dogs. It’s an off
leash park. While our home is at the Pontiac end of Victoria, we have a lovely
trail at the Carlsbad Village Dr. end of Victoria. While you can’t have your
pup off-leash, it’s a wonderful place to take your pup, or do what I do, just
go for a walk over there. It is called the Village H South Trail. It’s a great addition to any walk you might
want to do around the neighborhood.https://www.carlsbadca.gov/services/depts/parks/facilities/north/dog.asp
Calavera Elementary, Jr. High and High
Schools are within walking distance, as is the Walmart, Albertson’s, Costco,
Kohl’s, Hobby Lobby, and of course a Starbucks. Ok, the stores are a little
longer walk than to thelake. 😉
We’ve been happy living in Carlsbad
since we moved here all those years ago. We’ve seen it grow, and change. I will
say, our Mayor(s) and City Council members have done a great job running this
city. We have beautiful beaches, lots of hiking trails, wonderful city
sponsored events like the Jazz In The Park series and so much more.
