Neighborhood Information

Spindale NC – A small textile town between Forest City and Rutherfordton, NC. This little town sprang up around 1923 when textile mills and factories were located there.  It might remind you of Andy Griffith’s bucolic made up town, Mayberry RFD.  Today, most folks own a car and commute to work, but some are employed in town at one of the several thriving restaurants, the local Library, Spindale House, or the community center. Besides a local drugstore and walk-in medical clinic, The American Dairy Goat Association is located downtown. As recently as 2011, the town hosted a well-attended goat parade. 2011 Dairy Goat Festival and Parade

In the heart of the Isothermal Weather Belt, a temperate weather region that tends to have a little better weather than its neighbors, a little cooler in the summer, a little warmer in the winter, Spindale is situated to take full advantage. Along with the good weather, Spindale is host to Isothermal Community College. Spindale Campus, besides being the go to community college for Rutherford County students, is home to an entertainment venue, The Foundation Performing Arts Center. The campus also includes an eclectic radio station, WNCW, that, according to this website about the town Spindale.net is listened to by folks around the world.

Spindale is one of the three towns that make up the Tri-City area. Spindale, Forest City and Rutherfordton have one movie theatre, one Lowes, one Fatz, one super Walmart, one Staples, one Bojangles, and a host of charming Main Street shops. We find we can get what we need locally and if not, we have the internet.

Facebook has located in nearby Forest City and is bringing some small tech startups to the area. The Tryon International Equestrian Center is just up the road. If you want to venture out on your bicycle, there’s an expanding rails to trails track. The Thermal Belt Rail-Trail is about eight miles long and will eventually run more like 13. This merges with the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail for Revolutionary War enthusiasts. If you like, you can jump on and hike more than 50 miles.

Outdoor devotees love the area. It’s convenient to biking and hiking and, over at the South Mountain State Park, river running, floating, and new to the area zip lines. Rutherford County is home to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock and has been a continual source of fun for tourists who have been coming here since the 20’s.

For small town living in a charming mountain community it’s hard to beat Spindale, NC.
