OVERVIEW OF THE SAINT AUGUSTINE BEACH
Saint Augustine Beach has everything you need to make as your permanent beach home or vacation property. Not too far from highway I-95 and 15 minutes to the heart of historical downtown. The City of Saint Augustine Beach was incorporated in 1959, with a land area of 2.5 square miles and monitored by a lifeguard from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Beach wheelchairs are available upon request at no charge. Lying approximately five miles southeast of the City of St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach’s boundaries are the Atlantic Ocean, the west right-of-way of A1A, the north of Pope Road and Sandpiper Village subdivision to the south. Anastasia State Park vastly encompasses 1,600 acres of unspoiled beach and is close-by. Over 4 miles to bicycle on, view several species of native birds, pets are permitted in accordance to the park’s pet policy, camping, fishing, picnicking, surfing, boating, paddleboards, private events, and more. The St. Augustine Amphitheater is just around the corner heading towards the lighthouse hosts a variety of bands and a weekly farmers market year-round.
Saint Augustine Beach has a commission/manager form of government. The Board of Commissioners have five members elected at non-partisan elections for staggered terms of four years each. The City of Saint Augustine Beach provides the following services: Law Enforcement, Planning and Zoning, Code Enforcement including short-term rental policies, Building Inspection, Solid Waste Collection, Road and Right-Of-Way maintenance, maintenance of city property, drainage and storm-water management, and street lighting and holiday decorations. The area is in medium density and currently there is a freeze to be added to the short-term rental permit waiting list which is managed by The Board of Commissioners. Short-term rental permits are transferable.
Saint Augustine beach has several neighborhoods all with their own flair but share the commonality of walking distance to putt-putt golf, taco stands, seafood restaurants, ice cream and surf shops. Otherwise known as a small city on Anastasia Island known for its wide beaches. Residents enjoy the landmark pier, free
entertainment at the beachside pavilion, a beachfront park, sand volleyball courts, a playground and a children’s splash zone. Reasons living at the beach is a sought after location to experience loggerhead turtles nesting, sunrises, seashell combing, and miles of tropical exploring or just relaxing with your toes in the sand. The 3-mile-long beach was named “one of the ten most gorgeous beaches to visit” in May 2021 by MSN.com.
