Why We Chose Barna

We have built 2 log homes and I choose Barna because of the quality and design. The Barnasystem is one of the few that actually tells you that a log home will settle and has a system built in that allows you to adjust for it. One of the things that we did is use the Superior Wall System in the basement. I have had several homes with basements and the Superior Wall System is by far the best way to go. The walls come insulated, and designed for electrical. They are completely water proof and are much easier to finish than concrete walls. We haven't finished the basement because once we decided that we weren't gonna keep the cabin, we thought that it would give the new owners an opportunity to finish it to their liking. The basement does already have the HVAC system in place and all plumbing and fixtures are in place for the full bathroom. We also put in a high efficient, 16 seer Trane heat pump, humidifier system, with no flex duct, all hard pipe. I also put in an outside fresh air supply for the fireplace. This allows you to shut the custom fireplace doors and the fire will burn more efficient using outside air. Although our Barna plan actually had a detached garage in the plans, we never felt the need to have a garage, for the winters are mild in this area, which is one of the reason we choose to build on Yellow Top. We looked at other areas but quickly learned that a lot of the other areas weren't accessible during the winter months. We will be very sad the day we turn the keys over to the new buyers. We built this home to enjoy and spend our retirement, but a change in our present job locations have made it to hard to enjoy like it needs to be. When we built this home, we spared nothing for quality. All cabinets and built ins were custom made out of oak and hickory wood. The floors are all Australian Cypress and are guaranteed for 50 years against any defects. Most of the interior walls are Cypress as well. We used up graded doors and windows and insulated and tinted glass in the great room windows. I don't know that we would have done anything different if we were to rebuild. The home is just perfect in our opinion. Jim Barna Log and Timber Homes In addition to crafting quality logs, with details like none other, the Barnasystem is one of the few that actually tells you that a log home will settle and has a system built in that allows you to adjust for it.
