Welcome Home!
You have just walked into a great urban home with true value. This home was extraordinary for us and we lived
comfortably in it for 9 years. We chose it because it was NEW, has ample parking, is convenient to everything (Cub
is 2 blocks away, Lund’s or Whole Foods are 2.5 mi, you’re right on the bus line, 1.5 mi to Target Station, 1 mi to
I-94, 1.1 mi to the Mississippi trail system, 1.5 mi to Theo Wirth Park, 2 mi to Downtown - 10 minutes), and in a
neighborhood in positive transition. As such, property taxes are pleasantly low. We started our family here but sadly we
had to make a move to be nearer our ailing parents/grandparent and we both got new jobs to the east so our commute
was no longer ideal.
We are very sad to leave Old Highland, our neighbors and friends. Hennepin County Commissioner, Linda Higgins,
lives just across the alley and some of your local state representatives are within a few blocks. The Old Highland
Neighborhood association (oldhighland.org) is a group of passionate neighbors who get together regularly, share meals,
help each other out, work to keep the neighborhood clean and safe, and advocate for ownership and empowerment in
the community. Many of your neighbors here have been in their homes for over 30 years! We are in close contact with
Kevin Salblad, the owner of the apartments across the street who is always around taking care of the place. Most of the
occupants are older and on a limited income but are friendly and welcoming.
The home is full of useful, comfortable space and we have always felt safe here. The alarm system is great but we’ve
never needed it (no break-ins or vandalism) and we installed that sophisticated keyless entry on the back door so
we’d never be locked out (it auto-locks after 30 seconds if you like). We finished the basement in 2008 with custom
components and zoned heat/air to keep it comfortable at any time of year and the bathroom floor is heated so a late
night trip won’t require slippers. This home is energy efficient with ample natural light. It has well insulated, walls, attic, and windows meaning lower utility costs and year-round comfort.
Outside, under that snow, are some of the most commented-on garden beds in the area. We replaced boulevard grass/
weeds with perennial gardens; Russian sage, hostas, peonies, woods purples, purple coneflower, indigo, sunflowers,
milkweed, blanket flower, yucca, irises, candylilly, clematis on the front stairs and north side, queen of the prairie...
The fruiting sour cherry tree and crabapple off the front porch are gorgeous and fragrant in the spring. The porch gets some great light and is fun to sit on and watch the infrequent football games in the fall. Otherwise the field is almost never hardly ever used so it’s never a problem and only has a little action on Saturday mornings in October. We fenced in
the north and east yard for privacy and recently put some rubber tiles down as a seasonal patio. The fact that you aren’t
on the alley means you have easy an safe access when the snow falls like it has this winter.
You are walking into a wonderful home and we hope you can be as happy as we were for nearly a decade.
Warm regards,
Jeremy and Anne (and our two boys)
