Neighborhood Info
South Mountain Peaks
With less than 200 home sites on about 475 acres with lots, ranging in size from an acre to ten South Mountain Peaks is a lovely, well-kept, gated community. It is conveniently located in scenic, historic Golden Valley NC. We like to say we’re 20 miles from anywhere and we like it that way. If you want to get away from it all and have lovely views in all directions, yet have conveniences like paved roads, underground utilities, this may be the place for you. The community is about 20 miles from I 85, and I 40 between Shelby and Marion NC. It’s an easy drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Lake James, Lake Lure, Hickory, and The South Mountains State Park. With airports in Asheville, Charlotte or Spartanburg and a small local airport, Marchman Field in nearby Rutherfordton, convenient to HWY 74 and HWY 226 it’s not hard to get here. South Mountain Peaks is a Fall Creek Development. They have a private Facebook page and a South Mountain Peaks website. Utilities. South Mountain Peaks has all underground electric. Everyone has a private well and septic system. High-speed DSL internet service is available, if not from AT&T, from Skyrunner, Exede, Hughes, WildBlue and others. DirecTV and Dish Network offer satellite television and can offer internet service, too. Electricity: provided through Rutherford Electric Membership Cooperative and/or Duke Energy. Recycling and Convenience center: within one mile of the subdivision, for garbage and recycling disposal. We don’t pay municipal taxes and don’t have trash pick-up. Heath Care and Emergency Services: The Golden Valley Volunteer Fire Department and a first responder ambulance service are on the Bostic Sunshine Highway. “911” service is well established. Rutherford Hospital, a 143-bed acute care facility complete with a recently renovated Intensive Care Unit and a new obstetrical and nursery wing, is about 15 miles from the subdivision. Regional facilities include Mission Hospitals in Asheville, Bowman Grey Hospital and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Duke University Hospital in Durham, and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Rutherford County is home to hundreds of physicians whose specialties include pediatrics, family physicians, internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, and plastic surgery, to name a few. And there is no shortage of other medical and health professionals, including dentists, chiropractors, midwives, physical therapists, massage therapists, and many more. If you’re not familiar with Rutherford County you might like to do a little research. Here’s a link for general area information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutherford_County,_North_Carolina Rutherford County is huge at ~566 square miles and diverse from the flatlands to the mountains with lots of valleys in-between. Rutherford County is comprised of 17 townships with names like: Golden Valley, Duncan’s Creek, Logan’s Store – these I’m told were the areas that hosted post offices, back when mail was delivered by horseback. Within those townships are many communities. My husband and I live in Sunshine Community. Near to us is Washburn Community and Washburn’s Store, which actually is a store. You will find a link to a video about Washburn’s Store on YouTube. At Washburn Store you can buy anything from pickles, to hoop cheese, to a wood cook stove, and a cast iron pan…. While you’re there see my Favorites , a links list, with the little heart and Places in the menu bar. Rutherford County Information has a lot of local information including tourism. The chamber of Commerce will be of some benefit, perhaps you’d like to look at the county demographics Rutherford County Chamber which says we have ~563 square miles. And in case you ran across the term Isothermal Weather region, here’s my favorite explanation Thermal Belts in NC You can check out our Rutherfordton Tour Book, (the home tours are courtesy of Coldwell Banker, I can show you any of those listings, too). You might like to see the Farmer’s Fresh Market, Area Information or Community Links in my blog at the GoldenValley Blog. I’ve found a couple of PBS films about the area and embedded them at the bottom of my real estate blog. KDsFarm Sorry, but my real estate blog is loading pretty slowly… I have too many videos embedded in it. I need to get rid of a few, but which ones? Here’s a ROC link Explore, Exercise, Relax. There are lots of things to do here, but most of my clients don’t come up to do anything. In fact they come to do nothing. They just want to enjoy the peace and solitude of a real mountain retreat, to feel the change of pace, to relax and recharge. I think you’ll find, most of the time, once you get here, you’ll never leave your property. We like to say we’re 20 miles from anywhere, and we like it like that. If you need to be near the center of activity, where there’s a lot going on all the time, I can tell you, this will not suit you. We’re so far out in the country the speed limit is 55 and there are NO stoplights. While there’s always something going on, you’re going to have to drive to get there. But, I like it like that. Maybe you will too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeqpSFpyCdQ&feature=related Rutherfordton North Carolina Earthperks and Rev Tours |
