A Dozen Things We Love about 711 Elizabeth Lane
We were fortunate to be able to have had this house built in 1999. We have put a lot of love and imagination into the property over the past 25 years. We think you’ll love this home as much as we do.
1. Kitchen / Gathering Room with Cathedral Ceiling The kitchen opens to the gathering room which has a cathedral ceiling with skylights. We love having a kitchen with a spacious island with seating, room for a kitchen table with chairs, and two other seating areas, one with a fireplace. With the kitchen open to the gathering room, entertaining is perfect because guests always want to gather in the kitchen. The huge island serves as a buffet. The bar is a perfect place to lay out drinks. The French doors to the porch and patio from the kitchen are the reason that friends always gathered at this house for parties and events. We enjoy watching the sunrise from this room as we start our day.
2. Back Porch and Patio Sitting on the back porch with the stone and wood columns feels like a mountain retreat. It’s a lovely place to chat with neighbors that stop by, swing on the porch swing, have a meal or even work. Just two steps down and you are on the oversized patio. We love having huge fire rings with friends, dining parties with multiple tables, and outdoor movie nights. The lights in the trees and proximity to the kitchen provide the perfect setting.
3. Landscaping and Gardens We love the rock wall landscaped garden beds, and the more than ample raised beds for growing berries, vegetables and flowers. The raised beds are located near the garden shed and water tap behind an antique garden gate. We can watch the flowers bloom from the primary bedroom, bath and office.
4. Privacy and Nature The house is nestled into just over two acres with a treehouse in the woods. It’s set back from the sidewalk, providing a large flat wooded front yard. The beautiful lot provides privacy on all sides, with a panoramic wooded view in the back yard. Three lawn areas are positioned around the house for play areas. We enjoy abundant wildlife and birdsong. The trees provide shade and noticeable cooler temperatures from surrounding unshaded areas.
5. Driveway with Abundant Off-Street Parking The lighted brick post entrance and large arching pergola across the driveway welcomes you with a touch of formality to the otherwise relaxing wooded setting. There is plenty of parking for family and guests. We enjoy pulling out the fire pit onto the parklike wide gravel area to enjoy the company of neighbors in the fall.
6. Laundry Room The large laundry room is right off the kitchen, convenient for tending to laundry loads while multitasking in the kitchen. The room can be used as a utility room, pet area, craft room, or expanded butler’s pantry with loads of room to store extra kitchen gear or craft supplies. It has a utility sink and an extra-long space to hang clothes.
7. Garden Studio / Recreation Room on Main Level The studio is located right off the kitchen, and acts as a mudroom, workshop, art studio, plant nursery, entertainment space, and recreation room. The layered lighting was designed for task lighting, as well as full ambient daylight. The room feels like an extension of the garden with sliding glass doors and casement windows opening to the outdoors. The room exudes character with a polished concrete floor, raw edge shelving, large stained wood closet doors, quartz countertop with stainless steel sink, and custom cabinet with hand forged hardware crafted by a local blacksmith.
8. Primary Bedroom with Ensuite Bathroom The primary bedroom is on the main level, allowing single floor living and convenience.
9. Giant Walk-in Attic and Storage Throughout the House The walk-in attic is a dream for storing and accessing holiday decorations and keepsakes and other items.
10. Large Windows Overlooking the Landscape The windows were designed to provide outdoor views from almost any place inside the house.
11. Carriage House / Double Garage. Affectionally referred to as “The Barn”, we love our detached double garage/carriage house. It was designed to house a travel trailer, be a covered play area, workshop and for hosting events and gatherings. The stained interior surrounds gorgeous lighting including a chandelier, barn lights, bistro lights and ceiling fans. The side wall height was designed so that a future second floor apartment could be added. The custom carriage doors are magnificent, and the quadruple sliding glass doors open to the back yard entertaining area. It even has roof exhaust fans for “open air” gatherings post Covid. The large casement windows open to a private natural setting. There is a 30 volt outlet for campers and an EV charger.
12. Separate Living room / Family Room We love to unwind in the separate living room after spending much of the day in the kitchen / gathering room. Also, the two living areas, separated by a double sided fireplace and pocket doors, allow for concurrent separate family activities.
