West Mobile is located just past Spring Hill starting at University Boulevard and continuing westward. West Mobile is where you will find the Mobile Regional Airport. The Mobile Regional Airport is located 7 miles West of Interstate-65 off of Airport Boulevard. The Airport spans across just over 1,700 acres with two asphalt runways and three helipads. In 2011 Mobile Regional Airport went through a much needed face-lift. In the newly renovated terminal you can find shops and restaurants, including local favorite Carpe Diem Coffee & Tea, car rental agencies, and new LED lights outside giving the Airport a fresh new look. 

West Mobile is the home of the Gulf Coast’s Largest Flea Market. The Mobile Flea Market is located at 401 Schillinger Rd N, Mobile, AL 36608. The Flea Market Mobile offers free admission and parking, over 800 booths, six concession stands, and on-site security. The Mobile Flea Market is Open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 5pm. When in West Mobile you must experience the Mobile Flea Market and explore all of the hidden treasures the vendors have to offer. 

 

West Mobile is also the host to Mobile’s Fairgrounds. The Grounds is located in West Mobile at the intersection of Cody Road and Zeigler Boulevard. The 100-acre property lies on the Northwest Corner of this intersection. Annual Events include the Greater Gulf State Fair and the Mobile Chili Cook-off benefiting the American Cancer Society. 

Living in West Mobile gives you access to great food, shopping, and entertainment. Food in the south is kind of a big deal and knowing the good food is a must. Some local dining favorites include the Hungry Owl, Montego’s Caribbean Cafe and Bar, Via Emilia, and Moe’s Original BBQ West Mobile location. Schillinger Road is where you can find just about all your needs. There is a Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl’s, Carmike Wynnsong 16 Cinemas, and the Westwood Shopping Center is home to Gander Mountain, Hobby Lobby, AutoZone, and many more. 

West Mobile is home to some beautiful city parks. First is Medal of Honor Park (or Cottage Hill Park). Medal of Honor Park has two convenient entrances off of Knollwood Drive and off of Hillcrest Road. Park amenities include 4 softball fields with lights, playground, dog park, one mile concrete track around park, walking trails, disc golf course, tennis courts, football field, soccer fields, and lots of open green grass. Second there is West Mobile Park. Park amenities include 8 softball fields with lights, picnic tables, and a small playground. Third there is Westside Baseball Complex. Westside is a baseball park designed for ages 4-16 to play in organized baseball and learn America’s favorite past-time. 

West Mobile offers it’s residents the ability to Keep Mobile Beautiful with the newly opened Mobile County Recycling Center. It is conveniently located on Hitt Road between Schillinger Road and Cody Road. This $2.4 million recycling facility makes it super easy for the residents to recycle as it is a drive up system making it an effortless process. The center is open 7-days a week from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. allowing ample time for folks to drive in and drop off their goods. The new facility aims to remove 2 million pounds of material away from landfills every month. Bins will be lined up next to a drive-thru area at the facility where sorted goods can be placed. Sorting follows easy guidelines:

1. Rinse recyclables

2. Remove lids/caps

3. Sort into groups of plastics 1, 2 and 3, paper, glass, plastic bags, steel cans, cardboard and cans

4. Bring them to the facility and place in coordinated bins

West Mobile residents can receive top of the line medical care at Providence Hospital. Providence Hospital is located off of Airport Boulevard with a second entrance off of Cody Road. Providence Hospital has been serving, caring, healing since 1845. West Mobile residents can sleep at ease knowing Providence Hospital is taking care of and healing their loved ones.

Last, but certainly not least, West Mobile is home of the University of South Alabama. University of South Alabama is a public institution that was founded in 1963 and settled in the current West Mobile location in April of 1964. South Alabama is located at Old Shell Road and University Boulevard. The area around the campus has seen lots of growth over the last 10 years with new apartment complexes, new shopping centers, and new restaurants for students and residents to enjoy. USA annually enrolls more than 16,000 students. These students get to take advantage of state-of-the-art facilities, a 116,000 square foot recreation center and over 200 student clubs and organizations. When taking a break from studies, Students and Mobile residents can support any of the 17 Division I athletic teams the South Alabama Jaguars field that compete in the Sun Belt Conference. As the Nation knows the South loves its football. So in 2009, Mobilians were a buzz as the South Alabama Jaguars had its inaugural season for football. This great school and beautiful campus is significant part of West Mobile.
