Hallandale Beach, Florida: Homes, Condominiums and Town-Homes For Sale

Hallandale Beach Real Estate for Sale by Realtor Kate Smith, find luxury waterfront condos and homes for sale in Hallandale BeachHallandale Beach, named after Luther Halland, a worker for Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railroad is a city in Broward county with a population of 37,111. The city is known as the home of Gulfstream Park (racing and casino) and Mardi Gras Casino greyhound racing track, which hosts the World Classic. Hallandale Beach real estate industry plays important economic role. With the newest luxury developments such as: the Beach Club, Duo, 2080 and OCEAN MARINE YACHT CLUB, along with the Gulfstream Park Village and the shopping plazas flanking Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Hallandale Beach received a much needed face-lift. The city also has a sizable financial district, with offices for a number of banks and brokerage houses. Sometimes referred to in jest as the "southernmost Canadian city," Hallandale Beach has been a popular vacation destination for decades, and many of the tourists come from Quebec and the Northeastern United States; a significant number of these tourists eventually retire to the area. Visitors as well as residents enjoy beautiful beaches, wide choice of sporting activities year round including tennis, golf, swimming, boating, and salt water fishing, and comfortable hotels. Two of South Florida premiere race tracks are located in Hallandale Beach: Gulf Stream Park, home of the world-class thoroughbred horse racing and Mardi Gras Gaming, which features exciting dog racing action six months a year. The history of Hallandale Beach, begins when railroad magnate Henry Flagler, recruited Luther Halland, a brother-in-law of Flagler's agents, to establish a settlement south of the community of Dania. Halland and Swedish immigrant Olaf Zetterlund touted the frost-free climate and cheap land of the settlement (then named Halland, later changed to Hallandale). Hallandale was reincorporated as a city in 1947, allowing it to expand its borders through annexation of nearby unincorporated land lying adjacent to the Atlantic shore. In August 1999, the city officially changed its name to Hallandale Beach.
