Rocklin is considered another suburb of Sacramento (about a 15 mile commute). Rocklin borders the local communities of Lincoln, Roseville, and Loomis. Conveniently located at the intersection of state highway 65 and interstate 80, Rocklin is 20 minutes from Lake Folsom, thirty minutes from downtown Sacramento, and less than 2 hours from the bay area, ocean, or Lake Tahoe. Rocklin’s topography can be characterized by rolling terrain with 360 degree views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the northeast and the Sutter-Butte mountain range to the West. Rocklin was incorporated in 1893, and its recorded history began 150 days ago when Joel Barker Whitney established his Spring Valley Ranch. This former ranch is now occupied by the planned communities of Stanford Ranch and Whitney Oaks. The cities original claim to fame was granite mining and rock quarries. In 1910 there were 22 quarries operating. Rock from these quarries can be found in many local historic sites as well as buildings in San Francisco. Like many cities in California, Rocklin has experienced rapid growth since 2000 (averaging 6% per year population growth). The City’s current population is approximately 57,901 and is expected to reach 76,136 by 2030. Unlike many cities in California, Rocklin still maintains the highest quality of life and is known for its very low crime rates, excellent schools, and beautiful parks. Family Circle magazine named Rocklin one of the “10 Best Towns” for families in America.
