About the Neighborhood

A visit to the Oakland Hills Montclair District will help even the most casual observer understand why this charming, scenic neighborhood is one of the most desired areas to live in Oakland. The hilly and forested terrain is reminiscent of Tahoe with an abundance of natural beauty and tranquility. Montclair offers the perfect mix of urban, suburban and woodsy living.

Comprised mostly of custom built homes, the Montclair District has some of the most appealing and interesting homes in the Bay Area. There is a definite mix of styles ranging from mid-century moderns, traditional contemporaries , ranch styles and even a few 1920’s Storybook homes. With all the natural beauty and stunning San Francisco Bay views, some of the homes in the area have a multi- million dollar price tag. However, some of the smaller, older homes with canyon views are available in the $ 500,000 and up range.

The Montclair District also provides easy freeway access to San Francisco, Berkeley, Emeryville and Silicon Valley. In addition to driving to work, AC Transit serves the area with the trans bay V Bus. There are also several casual carpool pick up areas along Park Blvd, and Broadway Terrace. Commuters take the casual car-pool into San Francisco and then return by the ACTransit bus in the evening. It is only a 10 minute drive to Rockridge Bart where you can park and either take BART or snag a casual car pool ride on Hudson St. and return home via BART.

In addition to the easy commute and stunning homes, this neighborhood includes some of the highest rated schools in Oakland – Montclair Elementary, Thornhill Elementary, Joaquin Miller elementary and Montera Middle School.

Although there is no formal definition of the neighborhood, the general boundaries are Highway 24 to the north, the city of Piedmont border to the west of Highway 13, Skyline Boulevard to the east, and Joaquin Miller Road to the south. The center of the neighborhood is a compact shopping district known as Montclair Village, which is located next to Highway 13 in the bottom of the canyon.
