Neighborhood InfoThe Summit is a private, gated community, developed by Fall Creek Land Company, with paved roads and underground utilities. It covers ~308.39 acres and has 122 lots with elevations ranging from 1260 to 2020 feet. This year, the home owner’s association fee is $400 annually, and pays for the gate and road maintenance. The Summit boasts some of the loveliest distance views in the area. Here is a link to the webpage hosted by the Summit Home Owners Association. It has some great information about their community, beautiful pictures, and some very useful links to local resources. http://summitpoa.org/ Located in scenic, historic Golden Valley NC, the community is about 20 miles from I 85 and I 40, between Shelby and Marion NC and convenient to Hwy 74 and Hwy 226. It’s an easy drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Lake James, Lake Lure, Hickory, and The South Mountains State Park. The park is a 37,000 acre preserve offering miles of scenic hiking and biking trails as well as picnic areas. With airports in Asheville, Charlotte and Spartanburg and a small local airport, Marchman Field in nearby Rutherfordton, it’s not hard to get here. The closest town is Bostic, NC. Bostic is a quaint incorporated town with a population of 328. Some believe Bostic is the true birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and a stone marker has been placed on the north edge of town to honor his birthplace. Bostic has a Town Hall, a bank, post office, grocery store, post office and several small businesses. There’s also the Bostic Lincoln Center: http://www.bosticlincolncenter.com/museum.htm Just beyond Bostic are the towns of Forest City, Spindale and Rutherfordton along with several smaller communities in the surrounding countryside. These towns and communities offer a glimpse into what true rural America is all about; a leisurely, quality lifestyle and friendly hometown folks. The resort towns of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village offer luxury, convenience and seclusion in a setting of natural wonders, rugged mountains, foothills, meadowlands, and beautiful waterways. They’re also all about hometown hospitality so, for fun, recreation, live entertainment, or exploring our cultural heritage, they’re the perfect place to spend a day or a vacation. Here’s a link for general area information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutherford_County,_North_Carolina Rutherford County is huge, 563 square miles, and diverse with land from flatlands to mountains and lots of valleys in-between. Rutherford County is comprised of 17 townships with names like: Golden Valley, Duncan’s Creek, Logan’s Store – these I’m told were the areas that hosted post offices, back when mail was delivered by horseback. Within those townships are many communities. My husband and I live in Sunshine Community. Near to us is Washburn Community and Washburn’s Store, which actually is a store. It is on the National Historical Register. You will find a link to a video about Washburn’s Store on my real estate website KDMcCall.com . At Washburn Store you can buy anything from pickles, to hoop cheese, to a wood cook stove, and a cast iron pan…. While you’re there see my Favorites , a links list, with the little heart and Places in the menu bar. http://www.rutherfordcountync.gov/ has a lot of local information including tourism. The chamber of Commerce will be of some benefit, perhaps you’d like to look at the county demographics Rutherford County Chamber . And in case you run across the term Isothermal Weather region, here’s my favorite explanation Thermal Belts in NC You can check out our Rutherfordton Tour Book, (the home tours are courtesy of Coldwell Banker, I can show you any of those listings, too). You might like to see the Farmer’s Fresh Market, Area Information or Community Links in my blog at the GoldenValley Blog. I’ve found a couple of PBS films about the area and embedded them at the bottom of my real estate blog. KDsFarm Sorry, but my real estate blog is loading pretty slowly… I have too many videos embedded in it. I need to get rid of a few, but which ones? Here’s a ROC link Explore, Exercise, Relax. There are lots of things to do here, but most of my clients don’t come up to do anything. In fact they come to do nothing. They just want to enjoy the peace and solitude of a real mountain retreat, to feel the change of pace, to relax and recharge. I think you’ll find, most of the time, once you get here, you’ll never leave your property. If you need to be near the center of activity, where there’s a lot going on all the time, I can tell you, this will not suit you. We’re so far out in the country the speed limit is 55 and there are NO stoplights. While there’s always something going on, you’re going to have to drive to get there. But, I like it like that. Maybe you will too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeqpSFpyCdQ&feature=related Rutherfordton North Carolina Earthperks and Rev Tours |

Mountain Lot with Vibrant Vista
This vibrant vista and Lake Murray Hilton can be seen from this 1.85 acre lot in The Summit. The Summit is a premier gated community and is one of the Fall Creek Developments in historic Golden Valley, NC. This upscale log cabin community has about 286 acres, 133 home sites, paved roads and underground utilities. The development has been turned over to the HOA and is solvent. Deed restrictions apply but they are workable. The winter view inspires a sense of serenity, the spring/summer view is rejuvenating and the fall view will leave you breathless.
