About the Neighborhood

Merryall, New Milford, Connecticut. The section of New Milford known as Merryall is set in the beautiful hills of Litchfield County in the northern part of New Milford, between Kent and New Preston. It has long been an extremely popular section of town for those who prefer to live a more quiet lifestyle. The homes are nestled in a highly wooded area, with homes, large estates and farms spotting the countryside.

The Merryall section of New Milford was given its name by a group of men who were surveying the area  between 1776 and 1731, it is not quite clear. However what is clear is that they were dining by a spring, shared a bottle of spirits, and named the area "Merryall" as they were Merry all! A book titled "History of the towns of New Milford and Bridgewater, Connecticut, 1703- 1882 by Samuel Orcutt is a good read, I find myself fascinated by the early residents of New Milford Township.

Steeped in local history, the Merryall Chapel is still in use to this day. Built in 1890 it is a reflection of times gone past. Services are scheduled a few times a year, local clergy are asked to participate.  Across the street from the Merryall Chapel is the Merryall Center for the Arts. On first glance one would pass it right by, however they have a pretty impressive list of performers there on a regular basis.

Weantinogue Heritage Land Trust holds much acreage in Merryall, preserving and protecting the land for future generations. This has become a passion for many that move to this area of town. Because of their efforts we all enjoy the beautiful scenery as it is today.

Merryall is close to the Appalachian Trail, Mohawk Mountain, Route 7, the Housatonic River and many other places of interest.  So much to see and do here, plus the proximity to beautiful downtown New Milford which boasts a most beautiful and historic village center, a magnificent village green, many wonderful restaurants and great shopping.

More details

Cobble Hill Farm, located in Merryall, Litchfield County, is a renovated antique federal style center chimney colonial on 58 acres of farmland and woods. Set on a scenic country road, the house offers a wonderful retreat for those looking to enjoy the Litchfield County lifestyle. Cobble Hill Farm is located 90 minutes from New York City, 30 minutes to the train station and 15 minutes to either beautiful downtown Kent or New Milford.

The house was rescued and renovated, retaining much of the original period details and blending them with all the modern conveniences one would expect to find today. There are wide board antique chestnut floors in the original part of the home from local trees. Combine that with the original fireplaces, it is a feeling of comfort and warmth that surrounds you.

While renovating, a scene depicting life on the farm when it was a working dairy farm, was found and repaired. Life in a much simpler time, it is a unique surprise. Sit and relax on the screened in porch looking out over the pasture and pond, with long views of the Litchfield Hills. Spectacular in any season!
The formal dining room has a focal point fireplace and original cupboards, giving the room a very special feel.  There are 4 bedrooms en suite, on all levels. Another surprise is the finished walk up attic, use it for a library, media room, play room or whatever.

There is a studio, perfect for summer sleeping, reading, or use as an office. You cannot help but be inspired while looking out over the beautiful views. Enjoy an inground heated swimming pool, relaxing in the serene quite that you will find at Cobble Hill Farm.

The land extends across the scenic road to a barn, garage and another smaller barn. There are riding and walking trails, and it could be easily converted into a wonderful horse property. The current owner did keep a few cows on the property, and the fields are hayed by a local farmer. Fish your own trout stream, hunt on the land if you desire, try your hand at farming, bring horses to the property, or just enjoy the most spectacular view.
