Lompoc has something for everyone. The VAFB shuttle program was terminated in 1986 so citizens of Lompoc focused on tourism and the pristine Central Coast as a means to battle the recession. Also the community used the natural beauty of the Valley and its flower industry to develop a successful downtown mural program. Today tourism is a primary component of the Lompoc economy.
