Bridgewater Antique Farmhouse Awaits It's Newest Regeneration

About the Neighborhood

Bridgewater is approximately 16 square miles of beautiful Connecticut countryside. The population from the 2007 census was 1,824. The countryside is dotted with farms and country estates. It is a favorite choice for that perfect weekend home with its close proximity to New York City, easy access from 1-84, yet a whole world away.

Lake Lillinonah is a beautiful spot in Bridgewater with homes dotting the lake edge, hiking trails and great boating, rowing and fishing opportunities. A long standing farming community, Bridgewater has many antique farmhouses, colonials and barns, homes of all sizes and prices.  A favorite spot for a luxury second home as well as a year round home. The Burnham School is the elementary school in Bridgewater.  Small classroom sizes give this town a positive appeal for those looking to choose a town based on the school system. For both middle school and high school children attend Shepaug Valley Middle School and Shepaug Valley High School in the nearby town of Washington. Again with smaller classroom sizes this is a favored shcool with the locals.

The Bridgewater Village Store serves up some of the most mouth watering sandwiches and desserts I have had anywhere. It is a favorite spot for people to meet, have coffee, discuss the latest news, etc. Such a great atmosphere with food to eat in or take out.

Another great draw to Bridgewater is the annual Bridgewater Country Fair, folks come from all over to enjoy a real old fashioned country fair. Cows, chickens, jams and jellies, tractor pulls, wonderful arts and crafts for sale, some of the best food you will ever have at a fair, plus the parade featuring area volunteer fireman, marching bands and more. I put together a slide show with a bit of info about the fair, click here to view.

Bridgewater Antique Awaits It's Newest Regeneration

Set in the quintessential New England town of Bridgewater, this antique sits on almost 3 magical acres. The grounds offer endless possibilities, calling to the nature lover or gentleman farmer, bring your horses, plant your gardens, whatever you desire. With mature plantings in place, you can sit on patio made of Roxbury granite and enjoy the peace and quiet of country living. Old stone walls and beautiful maples surround the property making for stunning scenery all year round!

This colonial farmhouse, listed as being built in 1890, probably predates that in parts. Many of the original features have been maintained, including chestnut wide board floors, a fireplace surrounded by chestnut paneling, wide board floors though out most of the rest of the home. So many nooks and crannies to delight the antique lover in you! The "meeting room" is wonderful, open beams, cathedral ceiling, wide board floors, stone fireplace, and a small library adjacent. There are 12 over 12 windows in the meeting room, a lovely custom built cabinet put in by the previous owner and the room is steeped in local history. This room was the place the local John Birch Society met, as well as Moral Re-Armamement Society! So rich in heritage and character, this historic gem and its remarkable beautiful surroundings is the perfect canvas for a masterful renovation!

The large barn, currently used for woodworking projects can easily be converted back to a horse barn or garage.
