Neighborhood Info

Anthem was developed by Del Webb in 1999 as a master-planned community.[citation needed] Anthem has been described as one of the best places to live in Arizona and one of the best family friendly neighborhoods in the Valley by Phoenix Magazine.[citation needed] It was also named one of the best places to raise a family by Parenting Magazine.[citation needed]

Anthem is located in the northern foothills of Phoenix, approximately 34 miles north of downtown on Interstate 17. Centrally situated between downtown Phoenix and Flagstaff, the community enjoys easy access to both the sports venues and nightlife of Phoenix and the recreational destinations and cooler temperatures of northern Arizona cities like Prescott, Sedona and Flagstaff.

Nestled at the base of Daisy Mountain in the Sonoran desert, Anthem's temperatures are typically two to five degrees cooler than Phoenix.[citation needed] The average low temperature in January is 41.1 degrees and the average high temperature in July is 101.1 degrees. Anthem weather includes an 85% annual chance of sunshine, and an average annual precipitation of 13.28".[citation needed]

[edit]Governance

Anthem is governed by Maricopa County east of I-17 and the City of Phoenix west of I-17. The Anthem Community Council, Inc. (ACC) is a nonprofit "umbrella organization" that establishes plans and policies for the community and manages ACC community owned assets to provide a sense of community, ensure sound economic development, and promote a quality of life for all residents. The ACC is managed by a seven member Board of Directors, each elected to three year terms.

The community has three Homeowners Associations (HOAs) that enforce property maintenance and design guidelines: Parkside, Country Club, and Village Condos. Anthem residents pay quarterly assessments to upkeep the community's common areas, parks and facilities.

Cash and equity positions for the Anthem community are strong, with a reserve fund that is over 90 percent funded. Information compiled by the Community Associations Institute (CAI) indicate that Anthem would fall in the top 10 percent in terms of its percentage of reserve funding, its assessment collections rates, and its overall balance sheet strength.

[edit]Housing

The community has a variety of living options, from single-family homes (Parkside), gated communities (Anthem Country Club and The Landings)and townhomes (Paseo), to condominiums (The Village) and apartments (Bela Rosa).

[edit]Transportation & Access

Accessible Freeways: Interstate 17 is the primary connection to the community of Anthem. In 2010, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) completed a project that widened I-17 from Loop 101 to Anthem Way. The project widened I-17 from 2 lanes to 3 general purpose lanes and an HOV lane from Loop 101 to Carefree Highway and 3 lanes in each direction from Carefree Highway to Anthem Way. This project reduced traffic congestion for commuters between Anthem and the Phoenix metro area.

In October 2009, a two-way frontage road connecting Carefree Highway to Gavilan Peak Parkway in Anthem was opened on the East side of I-17. This frontage road, combined with North Valley Parkway and Norterra Parkway provide a surface street route to the rest of the Phoenix metro area.

Valley Metro does not provide bus service to Anthem, however they do provide a convenient, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly vanpooling service. For more information, go to www.valleymetro.org.
