Lot: 11.25acres Year built: 1989
This Western Cedar sided home on 11.25 acres is well up Cherry Mountain on a gravel road in rural Ellenboro, NC. With a fresh water spring, mountain laurel and a babbling creek, it's a true sanctuary. Theres a lot to love about this 2BR/2BA chalet. Tucked into the forest, youll seldom need air conditioning, but 4 new window units handle hot muggy days. A wood burning heater is adequate in the winter, but you can use the baseboard heaters. Theres an outbuilding, and an above ground pool (needs liner), all appliances, and more. Its a REAL retreat.
If you’re not familiar with Rutherford County you might like to do a little research. Here’s a link for general area information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutherford_County,_North_Carolina Rutherford County is huge at ~566 square miles and diverse from the flatlands to the mountains with lots of valleys in-between. Rutherford County is comprised of 17 townships with names like: Golden Valley, Duncan’s Creek, Logan’s Store – these I’m told were the areas that hosted post offices, back when mail was delivered by horseback. Within those townships are many communities. My husband and I live in Sunshine Community. Near to us is Washburn Community and Washburn’s Store, which actually is a store. You will find a link to a video about Washburn’s Store on my real estate website KDMcCall.com . At Washburn Store you can buy anything from pickles, to hoop cheese, to a wood cook stove, and a cast iron pan…. While you’re there see my Favorites , a links list, with the little heart and Places in the menu bar.
http://www.rutherfordcountync.gov/ Has a lot of local information including tourism. The chamber of Commerce will be of some benefit, perhaps you’d like to look at the county demographics Rutherford County Chamber which says we have ~563 square miles. And in case you ran across the term Isothermal Weather region, here’s my favorite explanation Thermal Belts in NC
You can check out our Rutherfordton Tour Book. You might like to see the Farmer’s Fresh Market, Area Information or Community Links in my blog at the GoldenValley Blog. I’ve found a couple of PBS films about the area and embedded them at the bottom of my real estate blog. KDsFarm Sorry, but my real estate blog is loading pretty slowly… I have too many videos embedded in it. I need to get rid of a few, but which ones?
Here’s a ROC link Explore, Exercise, Relax. There are lots of things to do here, but most of my clients don’t come up to do anything. In fact they come to do nothing. They just want to enjoy the peace and solitude of a real mountain retreat, to feel the change of pace, to relax and recharge. I think you’ll find, most of the time, once you get here, you’ll never leave your property. We like to say we’re 20 miles from anywhere, and we like it like that.
If you need to be near the center of activity, where there’s a lot going on all the time, I can tell you, this will not suit you. We’re so far out in the country the speed limit is 55 and there are NO stoplights. While there’s always something going on, you’re going to have to drive to get there.
But, I like it like that. Maybe you will too.

This cabin, with a spring fed water supply, wood heater, well into the little known retreat Cherry Mountain Acres, is nearly of the grid. With modern conveniences available, electricity, land line, DirecTV… the house is comfortable for a up-to-date lifestyle, but heat and water is available without electricity. The 2BR/2BA open floor plan with cathedral ceiling makes good use of space. An electric stair-lift is in place on the stairs and may be purchased. Great kitchen with lots of countertop and storage space, there’s a laundry behind louvered doors. There is a finished room in the loft and a finished room in the basement. On 11.25 acres, with springs, mountain laurel, and a babbling creek that flows by the side deck, you’re going to love this retreat. There is an above ground pool, but it needs a new liner, not a real expensive repair if a pool is important to you. A separate storage building with a new roof and fresh paint job is convenient. The house is tucked into the forest and seldom needs air conditioning, but there are 4 new window units for hot muggy days. A large wood burning heater heats the home nicely in the winter, but if you want to heat it quickly there are baseboard heaters. Turn them on a little while to take the chill off then turn them off and let the wood stove take over. This house has all the charm of a log home, but none of the maintenance. Sheathed in Western Cedar siding the house and decks require very little upkeep. Sitting on the deck is a pure joy, once you’re here, you might never go back.
