About the Neighborhood

Welcome to the south valley in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a current population of over 41,000. Here you find that this neighborhood was a traditional farming community and you still have irrigation ditches linked to the Rio Grande river and because of its greenery, you tend to forget you are living in the desert. So much greenery, mature landscape and farmland for miles. It's beautiful.

There are still some old adobe homes in the area that are over 400 years old and you will find many generations of families continue to live and still farm in this lush location.

Back in the day, you would have found the dairy farm directly across the street of my property for sale on Markham road, and the alfalfa farm was a few streets south of Markham road that is now being sold as individual lots in a subdivision.

Further North you find the Barelas neighborhood, one of the original unique neighborhoods closer to Albuquerque's downtown but here you find the Rio Grande Zoo, the Hispanic Cultural Center, the Aquarium, Tingley beach and Old Town. Downtown is still in the process of being revitalized bringing many old properties new life.

Today, there are still many acres of farm land in this lush Albuquerque valley but in lieu of many of the multi generational farms, families are using farm land to build houses and expand subdivisions.

The advantage you have in the south valley is that your neighbors are not right up against you. You will notice 1 acre parcels or more subdivided and many locations have water, sewer and electric within a reasonable distance from the line. Some are even irrigateable.

The south valley has New Mexican culture, hospitality and traditions still strong. Great place to live and visit.
