Datil New Mexico named for yucca seed pods and is home to Eagle Guest Ranch which has a cafe, motel, general store, gas station and RV park- they even order special supplies for you if requested. Burgers are great here!In Quemado and only 11 miles for a property I have listed for sale you will find the Town-Country Store with a gas station, a hardware supply store, a cafe, quaint specialty shops, the high school and a health clinic. You are only 45 minutes from Quemado Lake with Full RV hook up campgrounds along with tent sites and a boat ramp to troll around on the no wake lake for some of the BEST trout fishing. Take a trail on BLM land and enjoy nature. Have you been to El Mapias National Monument? Its a 2 hour drive and some of the neatest views from high atop the bluffs.
You have to stop in Pie Town, those pies at the cafe are homemade and I bet you can't eat just one. In fact, I bought 4 and had two left to bring home to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The elevation in Pie Town is 7900 feet.
The Gila Wilderness area contains 558,014 acres and is the oldest wilderness area in the United States. This wilderness is off limits to motorized travel and there are no roads on any of the land as a means to preserve it just as nature made it. This is a beautiful place to hike, backpack, horseback ride, hunt and fish. Follow the trails and check with the Forest Service Ranger Offices in the area for maps and information on the area.
