About the Neighborhood

The Summit is a private, gated community, the third developed by Fall Creek Land Company in Rutherford County, with paved roads and underground utilities. It covers ~308.39 acres and has 122 lots with elevations ranging from 1260 to 2020 feet. POA Dues cover the gate and road maintenance. The Summit boasts some of the loveliest distance views in the area.
Here is a link to the webpage hosted by the Summit Home Owners Association. It has some great information about their community, beautiful pictures, and some very useful links to local resources. http://summitpoa.org/
Located in scenic, historic Golden Valley NC, the community is about 20 miles from I 85 and I  40, between Shelby and Marion NC and convenient to Hwy 74 and Hwy 226. It’s an easy drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Lake James, Lake Lure, Hickory, and The South Mountains State Park. The park is a 37,000 acre preserve offering miles of scenic hiking and biking trails as well as picnic areas.
With airports in Asheville, Charlotte and Spartanburg and a small local airport, Marchman Field in nearby Rutherfordton, it’s not hard to get here.
The closest town is Bostic, NC. Bostic is a quaint incorporated town with a population of 328.  Some believe Bostic is the true birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and a stone marker has been placed on the north edge of town to honor his birthplace.  Bostic has a Town Hall, a bank, post office, grocery store, post office and several small businesses. There’s also the Bostic Lincoln Center: http://www.bosticlincolncenter.com/museum.htm
Just beyond Bostic are the towns of Forest City, Spindale and Rutherfordton along with several smaller communities in the surrounding countryside. These towns and communities offer a glimpse into what true rural America is all about; a leisurely, quality lifestyle and friendly hometown folks. The resort towns of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village offer luxury, convenience and seclusion in a setting of natural wonders, rugged mountains, foothills, meadowlands, and beautiful waterways. They’re also all about hometown hospitality so, for fun, recreation, live entertainment, or exploring our cultural heritage, they’re the perfect place to spend a day or a vacation. Utilities. Living in the mountains doesn’t mean living without modern conveniences. High-speed internet service is available.  Excede, Hughes and Sky-Runner offer satellite services. DirecTV and Dish Network offer satellite television and Dish can support Internet service as well.
Cell Service. Cell phones tend to work sporadically in Sunshine and Golden Valley communities. There are several new towers that will improve signal strength, but they are not online, yet. They are up and have lights on top, so we expect service soon.
Electricity: Provided through Rutherford Electric a local Cooperative with a reputation for excellent service and low electric bills.
Recycling and Convenience center: There’s a center within one mile of the subdivision at the corner of Luckadoo Mountain Road and the Bostic Sunshine Highway for garbage and recycling disposal. They have a swap shop and clothing bins, so if there’s something you’d like to get rid of, but don’t want to put it in the garbage put it in the swap shop, it’s first come first serve.
Heath Care and Emergency Services: The Golden Valley Volunteer Fire Department and a first responder service are on the Bostic Sunshine Highway. 911 service is well established. If you call 911 from a cell phone be sure to tell the dispatcher you’re in Rutherford County as your phone signal may come from a long distance tower. The subdivision gate responds to the Yelp system in emergencies.
Rutherford Hospital, a 143-bed acute care facility complete with a recently renovated Intensive Care Unit and a new obstetrical and nursery wing, is about 18 miles from the subdivision.  Regional facilities include Mission Hospitals in Asheville, Bowman Grey Hospital and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Duke University Hospital in Durham, and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Rutherford County is home to hundreds of physicians whose specialties include pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, and plastic surgery, to name a few.  And there is no shortage of other medical and health professionals, including dentists, chiropractors, midwives, physical therapists, massage therapists, and many more.
Rutherford County is huge at ~566 square miles and diverse from the flatlands to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutherford_County,_North_Carolina  , the mountains with lots of
valleys in-between. Rutherford County is comprised of 14 townships with names like: Golden Valley, Duncan’s Creek, Logan’s Store – these I’m told were the areas that hosted post offices, back when mail was delivered by horseback and the townships were about a day’s horseback ride for the mail man. Within those townships are many communities. My husband and I live in Sunshine Community. Near to us is Washburn Community and Washburn’s Store, which actually is a store. You will find a link to the UNCTV YouTube video about Washburn’s Store on my community blog. At Washburn Store you can buy anything from pickles, to hoop cheese, a wood cook stove, cast iron cook ware and more.
http://www.rutherfordcountync.gov/  has a lot of local information including tourism. The chamber of Commerce will be of some benefit. Perhaps you’d like to look at the demographics Rutherford County Chamber  which instead of 566 says we have ~563 square miles.  And in case you ran across the term Isothermal Weather region, here’s my favorite explanation Thermal Belts in NC
You might like to see the Farmer’s Fresh Market, Area Information or Community Links in my blog at the GoldenValley Blog.  I’ve found a couple of PBS films about the area and embedded them at the bottom of my real estate blog. KDsFarm. My real estate blog is loading pretty slowly… I have too many videos embedded in it. I need to get rid of a few, but which ones? Bostic Lincoln Birthplace? Bechtler Mint?
Here’s a ROC link Explore, Exercise, Relax. There are lots of things to do here, but most of my clients don’t come up to do anything. In fact they come to do nothing. They just want to enjoy the peace and solitude of a real mountain retreat, to appreciate the change of pace, to relax and recharge. I think you’ll find, most of the time, once you get here, you’ll never leave your property. We like to say we’re 20 miles from anywhere, and we like it like that.
If you need to be near the center of activity, where there’s a lot going on all the time, I can tell you, this will not suit you. We’re so far out in the country the speed limit is 55 and there are NO stoplights. While there’s always something going on, you’re going to have to drive to get there. I’m forever posting Day Trips on my Golden Valley Facebook Page.  Easy access to other areas is just one more reason we love it here. Maybe you will too.

The fixtures, finishes and flooring are lovely, and all the doors are wood with beautiful hardware, including the folding doors to the laundry. This house was built for year-round living and entertaining. The kitchen is open to the living area with high ceilings giving the space a light filled airy feeling unusual in a cabin. The bedrooms have large closets and there are even more closets, near the laundry, just for storage. Mature landscaping is well placed, and low maintenance. The property adjoins a 500 acre resort on the wilderness side of the resort affording a great deal of privacy. The big mountain view is toward Grandfather Mountain, and we think we can see it from the back deck. A full covered front porch offers a great space to sit, and the screened in porch out back is large enough for entertaining.

Golden Valley is conveniently located between Charlotte and Asheville, this location is convenient to I40, I85 and I26 which is perfect for travelers, and especially nice for RV owners. Located in rural Rutherford County in Golden Valley Community this house seems far from everything but is less than 20 miles to WalMart!

SqFt does not include the basement or the covered deck and porch. #WeekendGetaway #RetirementHome #LivingtheDream
