About the Neighborhood

Sherman, CT has been voted "Best Small Town in Connecticut" three times by Connecticut Magazine and when you visit there you will understand why! Sherman is located at the northern tip of Fairfield County, bordered by New Milford, New Fairfield, Candlewood Lake & Squantz Pond, in Connecticut and Dover & Pawling, New York in Dutchess County, and Patterson, New York in Putnam County.

What is life like in Sherman, Connecticut? One thing I can tell you is that Shermanites are committed to their town. The sense of pride shows as you drive through the area, pride in the town itself, pride of ownership, pride in the spectacularly beautiful town Sherman is. There is also a deep sense of community in Sherman. Stop by the store, post office, local restaurants, any town functions, and you will feel it.

Life in a small town like Sherman could be boring, but not here! There really is so much to do. There are numerous hiking trails, all manner of water sports on Candlewood Lake. Like to golf or just want the social part of the scene? There is The Club at River Oaks to soothe that passion. The Sherman Playhouse, home of The Sherman Players puts on many productions throughout the year. Of course, if you are not as active as all that, you could just sit back and enjoy the view, and what a view it is!

And Sherman has easy access to all the area towns have to offer! Shopping, more hiking, more water sports on the Housatonic River, great restaurants, art associations, art exhibits, too much and many to list!

Sherman is committed to remaining a rural town. This means no industrial activity, substantial areas are devoted to forestation, agriculture, open spaces, maintaining country roads and the preservation of historic structures. (homes, barns and other buildings) Sherman is also fiercely committed to the protection of its most precious commodity, the views and vistas, and its public recreational areas.  In 2004, Sherman adopted 4-acre zoning to protect the buildable land that is left.

A bit of historical and fun information about Sherman, CT

Did you know? Sherman is the home of NAROMIYOCKNOWHUSUNKATANKSHUNK Brook. I'm serious, and yes, that is 29 letters. It is located at the north end of town near the New Milford border.  The Naromi land trust derived its name from NAROMIYOCKNOWHUSUNKATANKSHUNK Brook! Try saying that fast 3 times. As a matter of fact, just try saying it one time!

Originally part of New Fairfield, the Puritans established "North Meeting" with a Congregational Church and some schools. They named what we know as Sherman, "New Dilloway". After petitioning the Connecticut General Assembly, the town was formed in 1802.

The town was named after local man, Roger Sherman, the only American to sign 4 important historical documents. The Continental Association of 1774, The Declaration of Independence, The Articles of Confederation and the Federal Constitution!

From agrarian roots, the town's population really only began to grow after the creation of Candlewood Lake in 1928. Candlewood Lake still remains a very important component to life in Sherman, Ct. There are many lake community homes, fantastic water front homes, and of course, there is the Sherman town beach at Candlewood Lake.

You can still find farms in Sherman, Naromi Land Trust owns a few of them. From animals to organic vegetables, fruits and flowers, Sherman honors its agrarian past. There are also a few equestrian centers located in Sherman for the horse lover.

Upstairs a spacious, private master suite will entice you to spend time relaxing, reading, watching TV separate from the rest of the home. A newly renovated master bath with a walk-in shower and heated flooring will certainly please you. A separate space, currently used as an office, might also make the perfect dressing area. If this isn't enough there is access to a large unfinished area over the garage that can be finished. (This area can also be accessed through the garage.)

There are 3 other bedrooms on the second floor, located far enough away from the master suite to give everyone the space they need.

The current owner uses the basement as his workshop and for storage. The short bulkhead offers an easy way to get things in and out, rather than using the basement stairs.
